Tropicana!

I am crazy about tropical prints. I love all of the hokey design from the 60's, Hawaiian inspired memorabilia and faux bamboo/rattan, bright color, palm leaves, pineapples, you catch my drift? Tropical prints always add a little bit of fun to a space, try adding a palm leaf pattern to your neutral sofa in the living room, or injecting a little flare through a pineapple shaped light fixture. Frame vintage Hawaiian postcards in a grouping for added effect, or a punchy table cloth to a drab dining set- just remember to have fun, and while your at it, sip some yummy tropical punch!!

How to Incorporate Tropical Design into your Everyday Life:
- Palm Leaf prints. Throw Pillow, Bedroom sheets
- Pineapple Decorative Objects
- Rattan/ Faux Bamboo, left in natural wood hue/ or painted out
- Shell Motifs, of Anything from the Sea
- Coral
- Banana Leaf Plant
- Lucite
- Car Cart
- Brass

Summer Time

When summertime rolls around, I like to change out some of our decor in favor of lighter and brighter items. We have finally entered the warm summer months, naturally I am attracted to pretty bright fabrics, natural accents, fruit and flower prints, pastels, art involving the outdoors and exotic animals. Naturally. (Are you with me?) Here are some of my favorite picks for this time of year! The plus is when the winter months return, your home will feel like an oasis!
What are your summer go to's?

Art Attack

Hey All, hope you had a great weekend! Today I wanted to talk about art. There are so many fantastic websites dedicated to great art these days. Etsy, Zatista, Art.com and 20x200 to name a few. I love the way art transforms a room. Without it a room can feel sterile, and un lived in. Add a few pieces of art and suddenly it feels transformed. I love all varieties, paintings, photography, illustrations, graphic. I love the combination in a space, it creates a storyline, and a richer feeling. I love layering, and stacking, hanging in a symmetrical fashion, and randomly placing. Sometimes I used uniform frames, often I use different to add visual interest. I don't take it seriously. If I like it, I buy it- and find a place for it, as simple as that. I am not a believer of having a place in mind beforehand, I make it work.

What are you loving right now? Here are a few of my Favorites.

Happy Menocal

 Happy Monday Everyone.

I am always so excited to come across an amazing artist. I am so in love with the artists style of illustration, it is so unique and the subjects are so humorous, the colors are so vibrant and carefree, and all are not to be taken too seriously. These would be great in a gallery wall as a large group,  and I think any of these images would be able to find themselves into any style of decor. It is hard to choose a favourite!

I want a portrait of Bruce done! How charming and sentimental of a keepsake would that be!!

Check out more here.

There's No Place Like Home

New frame waiting to be filled- this frame in particular will host a lovely piece of photography

This past week was crazy- Last Friday I had to race to Montreal, as my poor grandmother slipped and broke her hip, which then lead to surgery, which now will lead to recovery. So My sister and I went to sort things out and lift her spirits. Family things are always so difficult, but I was really happy I could be there.

Cut to a weekend of relaxation and reorganizing, I was able to get a lot of little things done that I have been fixated on for a while such as streaming the shower curtains, putting up new draperies in our bedroom, and lots of cleaning!

I also had an opportunity to catch up on a lot of movies, such as Drive, The Ides of March, Hugo, Moneyball, and Martha, Marcy, May Marlene. All amazing movies, all so different. You should see them all. My pics are Hugo, Moneyball, and Drive!

Then we watched the Globes, so I didn't feel totally out of the loop. I thought Ricky Gervais was really a lot of fun- had me laughing throughout. Overall the dresses were gorgeous- lots of fun!

Oh Deer

Finally, finally, finally, we got the Deer Prints I created printed & framed in the living room- I love the result! Unfortunately it has been so dark and dreary here lately so it has been rather difficult to get a good picture!

What do you think?? I can't wait to get some of the larger prints done!

Home Sweet Home: Fabulous Finds

Here are some great buys I have made recently that I am very excited about! My grandmother recently gave me this lovely "crumb sweeper" as seen above for my birthday she has such beautiful things from her childhood, how chic they were then! I also refinished a dinner tray(spiced it up with some pretty paper to line it, and painted it), and my Mom brought me that lovely soapstone seal from Cape Dorset, in Nunavut-the Inuit Art capital!! All the rest are fun things I have discovered in my travels!

What do you think?? What is the last thing you bought that you just loved??
